CHICK SIGNS DISTRIBUTION DEALS WITH KOLDCAST.TV & ROWDYORBIT.COM
10.28.09
We are thrilled to announce that CHICK has signed distribution deals with two cutting edge web television networks, KoldCast TV and Rowdy Orbit.
Part of what I love about the internet is how partnerships are embraced and allow everyone to flourish. It has been a wonderful experience interacting with these two passionate networks who have supported our vision for CHICK completely.
Working with Marti Resteghini over at KoldCast has been reassuring. As an independent artist the workload to get your project out in the marketplace can be overwhelming. KoldCast’s strategy of being selective about its programming and pro-active about marketing is exactly what we needed.
Jonathan Moore over at Rowdy Orbit, became an instant fan of the show and has bent over backwards to support us with press opportunities and an open door to his help. After watching the first couple of episodes Jonathan took the time to call me up and shower me with love and encouragement about the show. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need after months working on a project you’ve lost perspective on because you’re too close to it.
The CHICK Web Series premieres November 3, so come check us out on these awesome networks and hang a while to see the other great programming they’ve worked hard to find and offer you.
KoldCast TV delivers on-demand entertainment programming to a global audience in full-screen high-definition via its line of advanced Media Players. Award-winning original web series, music, comedy, sports and lifestyles programming create the nucleus of the KoldCast Television Network.
Rowdy Orbit is an online platform and destination for professionally produced, original episodic storytelling for the African American, Hispanic, Latino, and Native American viewing audiences.
CHICK AT BLOGGER BEACH CLEANUP

Here’s more info…
Join the Blogger Beach Cleanup and clean the beach for 20 minutes on the International Day of Climate Action with Siel of green LA girl and Sara Bayles of The Daily Ocean! Then mingle and mix with like-minded green Angelenos over drinks and yummies while plotting out a plan for our sustainable future.
When: October 24, 2009. Meet at 4 pm; cleanup begins 4:20 pm; more fun ensues 4:40 until ?
Where: Santa Monica Beach at Ocean Park, between lifeguard stations 26 and 27. (map and green travel directions)
Anyone — blogger or not — is invited! All you need to do is show up, ready to pick up trash — we’ll provide all the supplies you need. You’ll clean the beach — but only for 20 minutes (why only 20 minutes? Learn more about The Daily Ocean’s project).
After that, you’ll hear very brief invitations from local nonprofits for the next event that lets YOU make a difference in this whole big problem of climate change you’ve been hearing so much about.
Then you’ll get to chill out, drink, and eat with your new friends at the post-cleanup happy hour while waxing lyrical about pristine beaches, clean waters, local craft beer….
Why you want to be there:
1. The first 70 volunteers to arrive will get to pick from (first come first freebied):
>> a FREE reusable Envirosax bag, or
>> a FREE reusable Green Bag Lady tote, or
>> a FREE reusable FilterForGood water bottle to use and reuse!
2. You could win cool prizes. We’ll have prizes for:
>> The top 3 people who pick up the most trash:
>>First Place: $50 gift certificate from Co-opportunity, Santa Monica’s co-op natural grocer. Get your organic fair trade coffee and chocolate or locally made raw desserts with farmers’ market ingredients here.
>> Second Place: A FilterForGood prize pack, including a Brita filter, 2 BPA-free Nalgene bottles, and a copy of The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget.
>>Third Place: A Greenpeace prize pack, including 2 organic T-shirts, a 2010 calendar, a copy of DeSmogBlog’s new book, Climate Cover-Up, and more.
>>The blogger who brings out the most volunteers: $50 gift certificate from The Green Life, a one-stop-shop eco-store on Santa Monica’s popular Main Street.
>> One lucky volunteer traveling car-free: Clif Bar Prize Pack from Clif Bar with two organic T-shirts, Luna cap and socks, upcycled zip-up Clif-Terracycle bag, and a box of Clif Bars.
>>The nonprofit with the best web goal: Web and social media goal-setting and goal implementation with the help of Net2LA.
3. You’ll get free snacks and drinks to fuel your volunteerism, like:
>> Clif and Luna bars — Yummy energy bars and organic fruit rolls! We’ll have new Luna Cookies, Clif Kid, and Mojo bars in new flavors — in addition to the classic Clif and Luna bars.
>> Guayaki’s Lemon Elation — A refreshing, fair trade, organic drink with a yerba mate kick! Plus, Guayaki works to regrow rainforests through its sustainability-minded business model.
4. You’ll meet cool friendly people at the post-cleanup happy hour at:
Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar. Happy hour will feature free appetizers with ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market — plus organic and natural wines. Also, 15% of sales from the wine tasting machines will go to Heal the Bay!
5. You’ll learn what this whole “global climate change” thing’s all about — or if you already know what it’s all about, you’ll learn about some practical actions you can take to combat it — while hanging out with said cool people.

BLOG ACTION DAY: A CHALLENGE TO INDY FILMMAKERS TO SAVE THE WORLD
10.15.09
I’ve come to realize, addressing climate change is a lot like tackling the huge endeavor of making a film.
You start with something you’re passionate about, that you love to the core.  You want to share it with the world. Despite the endless challenges like no money, lack of resources and exhaustion, you find a way to plow forward. Before you know it you’ve got a whole film staring back at you that you sacrificed for, fought for and gave everything you could for.
These skills make indy filmmakers so prepped to take on the problem of climate change. We know how to get things done no matter what.
This is my challenge to indy filmmakers everywhere; let’s use some of that amazing creative energy we have as artists and pour it into our love for mother earth.
I know addressing climate change can seem like a daunting task, but it’s all about baby steps. If all you can do on your next production is ask everyone to bring a reusable cup to eliminate plastic water bottles from your set, do that!
I’m happy to dialogue with any fellow filmmakers who reach out. Or check out our green page for more information on what we did.
And maybe, just maybe, the independent film community can join together, become real life superheroes and help save the world.
